Cleaning Wool Berber Carpet
Few berber carpets are made of wool berber these days, most are fibers made from nylon or olefin. Wool fibers are considered the top of the line of all fibers in carpet and therefore cleaning it can be a demanding task.
When cleaning genuine wool carpet, it is not a good idea to use too much agitation and never used water with a temperature of 150 degrees. The same principle applies to if you had extra large wool sweaters, you would never wash them in hot water, for if you did they would shrink down to a child’s size. If wool carpet shrinks, it will pull away from the walls as it dries. You also do not want to over saturate the wool carpet or it could lead to bigger problems such as shrinkage, difficulty in drying and odor.
Olefin berber carpet is stain resistant. If grape juice is spilled on the carpet it will go to the bottom of the fiber without staining. But once the carpet is steam cleaned and the grape juice sucked backed to the top of the fiber, it can leave a stain. Multiple vacuuming can get rid of this stain. You may want to ask your carpeting cleaning contractor about the measures he will take if this happens.
Nylon berber is considerably easy to clean. Nylon is thick and can take a long time to dry, so you may want to consider having your carpet cleaned by a dry carpet cleaning method. Ask your nylon berber carpet cleaning contractor specialist about your options.
Rather your carpet is wool berber, olefin, or nylon berber, you want to vacuum often. When vacuuming, it is best to use a vacuum that does not have a beater bar in order not to disturb the weave of the carpet. Taking these precautions will your carpet longer life to appeal to to all your friends and visitors.
So as you can see, cleaning berber carpet is quite different from cleaning regular carpet.
